The Twins began the baseball draft on Sunday night by getting high school outfielder Walker Jenkins with the fifth overall pick. They ended the draft on Tuesday by selecting another high school outfielder, Ashton Larson.
In between, they took a whole lot of pitchers. Of the Twins’ 21 picks, 15 of them were pitchers — and all but two are right-handed. The Twins started Tuesday’s third and final day of the draft selecting eight straight pitchers before grabbing a pair of outfielders to cap off the draft.
Fifteen of the 21 players they selected are coming from college. Six are from high school, including their top two picks, Jenkins and Charlee Soto, whom they picked 34th overall.
The Twins have a bonus pool amount that tops $14 million, fourth most in the majors. The deadline for teams to sign their draft picks is July 25.
