2024 MLB schedule: Chicago Cubs open on the road for the 1st time since 2019, while White Sox start with a 6-game homestand

14 July 2023

The Chicago Cubs’ 2024 season will kick off on the road.

The Cubs open away from Wrigley Field for the first time since 2019, again in Arlington, Texas, against the Rangers. They are scheduled for a three-game series at Globe Life Field (March 28, 30-31) as part of the tentative 2024 schedule released Thursday.

The White Sox, meanwhile, play host to the Detroit Tigers as part of a six-game homestand to begin the season.

The Cubs and Sox are part of eight games for the traditional opening day March 28. The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres play Major League Baseball’s first games of the season March 20-21 in Seoul, South Korea, the first time MLB is playing big-league games in the country.

As part of their interleague schedule, the Cubs and White Sox play a pair of two-game series at Wrigley Field (June 4-5) and Guaranteed Rate Field (Aug. 9-10).

The Cubs host interleague games versus the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics. Their interleague road series will take them to the Rangers, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Guardians.

The Sox will welcome the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the New York Mets to Guaranteed Rate Field for interleague play. Their interleague road series send the Sox to the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Miami Marlins, San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres.

Four holiday games will be played at Wrigley next season: Father’s Day (June 16) versus the St. Louis Cardinals, Juneteenth (June 19) versus the San Francisco Giants, Independence Day (July 4) versus the Philadelphia Phillies and Labor Day (Sept. 2) against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Sox’s lone holiday home game comes against the Blue Jays on Memorial Day (May 27). They play at the Guardians on Fourth of July and at the Orioles on Labor Day.
