Connor Prielipp, Twins’ top pitching prospect, scheduled for elbow surgery

14 July 2023

OAKLAND, Calif. — Connor Prielipp, the top pitching prospect in the Twins’ minor league pipeline, is scheduled to have surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament in his left arm on Monday, the Twins said Friday.

It’s unclear whether the surgery, first reported by mlb.com, will be a reconstruction or a repair. That will be determined once the elbow is opened.

Prielipp, 22, was a second-round selection in 2022 out of the University of Alabama, where he had ligament reconstruction surgery in 2021. He has been limited to 6⅔ innings between Class A Fort Myers and Cedar Rapids this season and given up six earned runs on eight hits and four walks. He has fanned seven.

According to mlb.com, Prielipp is the Twins’ No. 3 overall prospect behind shortstop Brooks Lee and outfielder Emmanuel Rodriguez.

The Twins return from their All-Star Game break with an 8:40 CDT first pitch against the A’s at Oakland Coliseum.
