OAKLAND, Calif. — The Twins on Saturday placed infielder Jose Miranda on the injured list with a shoulder impingement and recalled Matt Wallner, an outfielder from Forest Lake, from Class AAA St. Paul.
Miranda, the Twins’ RBI leader (66) as a rookie last season, was scratched from Friday’s 5-4 victory over the A’s after complaining of pain in his right throwing shoulder. He was seen by an Athletics doctor and manager Rocco Baldelli said Friday he will be “shut down from throwing for a while.”
His 10-day IL assignment is retroactive to July 12. He hit .211 with four doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI, nine walks and 12 runs scored in 40 games across two stints with the big league club this season.
Wallner, 25, has hit .308 with 11 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 31 RBIs, 20 walks and 34 runs scored in 36 games for the Saints since May 30. This is Wallner’s third stint with Minnesota this season.
In his last four games with Minnesota (May 24-28), Wallner hit .636 with a 1.692 OPS, 7 for 13 with a double, homer, four RBIs, two runs scored, two walks and no strikeouts.
