Wiz Khalifa throws first pitch at Pittsburgh Pirates game while ‘shroomed out’

18 July 2023

Wiz Khalifa threw the first pitch at a Pittsburgh Pirates game Monday night, but what baseball fans might not have known was that the rapper was high on mushrooms as he took the pitcher’s mound.

Khalifa announced his intentions on Twitter ahead of the game, in which the Pirates took on the Cleveland Guardians at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Penn.

Finna get stoned af and throw this first pitch at the pirates game,” he tweeted on Monday afternoon. A minute later, he tweeted, “Shroomed out throwin a baseball is crazy.”

In other Twitter posts from Monday, Khalifa posted photos of his view from a PNC Park box and his bag of Cracker Jack. (“F— yea,” he captioned the latter pic.)

An MLB video clip of his big moment shows him waving to a cheering crowd as the ballpark announcer welcomes “Pittsburgh’s very own Wiz Khalifa.” The rapper then throws the ball, shrugs, and starts walking away.

Video from another angle shows he got the ball close to home plate.

Khalifa is a proud Pittsburgher, having graduated from Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported when the city council made him an official ambassador in 2012.

He also repped his hometown’s official colors — and the colors of the Pirates, the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins, and the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers — with his 2010 No. 1 single “Black and Yellow.”

Khalifa previously threw the first pitch at a Pirates game against the Baltimore Orioles game in 2017, and he drew the ire of the MLB by pantomiming like he was smoking a joint just before the throw. (He was also wearing a “Legalize It” shirt at the time.)

“Marijuana is a prohibited substance in all of our drug programs and it is unfortunate this situation occurred,” a MLB representative told WTAE after the stunt. “The Pirates have informed us that this should not have happened.”
