Logan Porter cracked a two-run double to left-center field off Josh Winder in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Omaha Storm Chasers rallied for a 5-4 walk-off victory over the St. Paul Saints Friday night in Papillion, Neb.
Winder took a 4-2 lead into the ninth but allowed a walk, a double and a single before Porter’s walk-off closer. He took the loss and upped his earned-run average to 6.16 on the season. The Saints (55-38) lost for the fifth time this season when leading heading into the ninth inning.
The Storm Chasers (44-46) struck first, getting two runs off of Saints starter Simeon Woods Richardson in the third inning on a pair of RBI singles. Woods Richardson went five innings, allowing the two runs on five hits while striking out four. He didn’t surrender a walk.
St. Paul took the lead in a four-run fifth inning. Austin Martin hit an RBI single, Kyle Garlick walked to force in a run and Gilberto Celestino hit a two-run single to left field as the Saints took a 4-2 advantage.
Cody Laweryson pitched two scoreless frames, allowing just two hits while striking out two, and Michael Boyle tossed a hitless eighth before Winder imploded in the ninth.
The Saints and Storm Chasers meet for the fifth of their six-game series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night. The Saints have not announced a starter for the game.
