A complaint that students are being taught “garbage” in high school sex education lessons was brought before the Duluth School Board’s Education Committee. A parent of a Denfeld student objected to the “moral tone and lack of values” in the material. Native Americans will have a powwow and feast in La Point, Wisconsin, to honor those who donated $85,000 to buy land on Madeline Island and end a conflict between a motel developer and the tribes. Members of the Red Cliff Band had said a motel would violate the historic burial grounds.

Alvin Freeman, 23, of Duluth, was cleared of a charge of criminal negligence by a district court jury last night. The charge was placed in connection with the traffic death of Mrs. Christopher Hassett, 52, of Two Harbors, at the intersection of 60th Avenue East and Superior Street. City and volunteer firemen in the Duluth area will be called upon to respond to practice alarms at the Duluth air base this week. Personnel will also compete for cash prizes in a search for prearranged fire hazards around the base.]]>
