A hit-and-run driver struck and critically injured a 17-year-old bicyclist early Friday in St. Paul’s North End.

Officers were called to the crash near Rice Street and Hoyt Avenue just after midnight.

Police learned that a person driving a small dark vehicle struck the teen as he rode his bicycle, said Sgt. Mike Ernster, a police spokesman. The driver sped off north on Rice Street to Wheelock Parkway, where the vehicle turned and was last seen eastbound.

Paramedics took the teen to Regions Hospital with a life-threatening injury, Ernster said.

Police asked anyone with information to call the investigator at 651-266-5693.
