Photos and video: Hundreds race 10 miles, help bridge the gap

8 October 2023

DULUTH For the second time in the race’s three-year history, Chelsey Youngberg of Duluth was the first person to cross the finish line for the Bridging the Gap Duluth Women’s 10 Mile. Youngberg, 29, of Duluth, reached the end in Leif Erikson Park with a time of 1 hour, 2 minutes, 5 seconds, almost seven minutes faster than her winning time in 2021 of 1:09:02.

Youngberg was one of 379 women, along with 12 men, that raced in the event, which started at 8 a.m. Saturday at Hawk Ridge.

As the Entrepreneur Fund‘s website indicates, “Bridging the Gap” is a metaphor for the gap women face. It’s a pay gap. It’s an accessibility gap. It’s many other gaps, and these gaps have consequences.

The race is organized by the Duluth Running Company and the Entrepreneur Fund’s Women’s Business Alliance program. Together, they have created the Bridging the Gap Fund. A portion of the proceeds from the event go to this fund and help to provide women with resources to build and grow sustainable businesses.

The 10 mile race course includes Seven Bridges Road and the Duluth Lakewalk, along with opportunities to see Lake Superior and fall colors.

The top male finisher was Cameron Fleming, 15, of Duluth with a time of 1:11:24.
