North Oaks’ Frankie Capan III finishes 51st in Korn Ferry Tour standings, will have final shot at PGA Tour card in Q School

North Oaks native Frankie Capan III finished in a tie for 41st at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship this weekend at Victoria National Golf Club in Indiana to wrap up his first year of professional golf.

That finish left him in 51st in the season-long standings. The top-30 players on the season-long list at the conclusion of Sunday’s event earned their PGA Tour cards.

Capan likely needed a top-two finish this week to seal a spot on the top tour. He came up short of that. But a top-60 finish for the season means he both has a spot secured on next year’s Korn Ferry Tour and is automatically through to the final stage of Q-School.

At the final stage — which is played in December — the top-five finishers will also earn PGA Tour cards. So there’s still a chance the 23-year-old could be teeing it up with the world’s best next season.

Regardless of what happens there, Capan’s rookie season was a success. He played the 3M Open on a sponsor’s exemption and made the cut at the PGA Tour event, qualified for the U.S. Open and logged three top-six finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour.

“Although I’ve had a lot of highs and lows, I feel like I’ve learned a lot, which has been good for me. So, no matter what happens, it’s been a great year for learning and growing, which I’m really pleased with,” Capan said on the Korn Ferry Tour’s social media accounts last month. “I think it’s important to kind of own your process and understand what makes you better and the things you need to do week in and week out that give you the best chance to compete. And I feel like I’ve just learned what those things are, and I’m continuing to work on them and do my best.”
