High school football: Week 7 predictions

12 October 2023

Here are some of Friday’s top high school football games in the East Metro and western Wisconsin:

Two Rivers (5-1) at Central (5-1), 5:30 p.m.

The Northstar-Twin Cities subdistrict championship is on the line, and these two programs look to continue resurgent seasons. Will Central be able to get its potent rushing attack going against a Two Rivers defense that hasn’t allowed more than 13 points in a game this season? OUR PICK: Two Rivers 28, Central 20

Eastview (4-2) at Lakeville South (5-1), 7 p.m.

Eastview has four wins in a season for the first time since 2018. But now the Lightning get into the most difficult portion of their schedule with the championship-caliber Cougars and Eagan before playoffs. And Lakeville South should be motivated after its narrow loss to Rosemount. OUR PICK: Lakeville South 34, Eastview 14

Edina (3-3) at Stillwater (5-1), 7 p.m.

This is the caliber of opponent Stillwater will likely need to beat in a second-round playoff matchup when the time comes if the Ponies are to get back to state. Edina is fresh off consecutive wins over Prior Lake and Shakopee. OUR PICK: Stillwater 24, Edina 21

Park (3-3) at Mounds View (3-3), 7 p.m.

Like Eastview, Park has experienced some success this season against a schedule void of Class 6A powers. Now, it will punch in a slightly different weight class. A Wolfpack win would make section seeding far more interesting. OUR PICK: Mounds View 21, Park 13

Hudson (7-1) at New Richmond (8-0), 7 p.m.

The Big Rivers Conference title will be determined by this game. This is only New Richmond’s fourth season in the conference, but the Tigers haven’t won an outright title in any conference in a long, long time. The Big Rivers is usually a conference dominated by defense, but these two offenses put up points. The Tigers are averaging 36.1 points per game this season, to Hudson’s 34.8. OUR PICK: Hudson 35, New Richmond 31
