The Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx professional basketball franchises announced the hire of Patrick Rees as chief communications officer. Rees most recently served in a similar role for Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. for the New York Knicks and New York Rangers sports teams.

Skully Rebels, a Minneapolis ad agency, announced that Thako Harris has joined as vice president of operations; he previously worked at Yamamoto, where he was director of operations and resources.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

Piper Sandler Cos., a Minneapolis-based national investment bank, announced that Tim Carter, chief financial officer, will retire in the first quarter of 2024. Kate Clune has been selected to succeed him. Clune joins the firm from Evercore Inc., where she was treasurer and head of planning and strategy.

GOVERNMENT

The Minnesota Department of Education announced the appointments of Patrick Wolfgram as the agency’s first inspector general and Julie Novak as its first literacy director. Novak previously was a school advocate at the Central Lakes Regional Center of Excellence in Sartell. Wolfgram is a licensed peace officer and a former Army National Guard member; he most recently worked for the Minnesota State Lottery.

The American Institute of Building Design announced it has named David Charlez Designs of Lakeville as one of its top designers in the 15th annual American Residential Design Awards. … The Society of Women Engineers announced Thea Feyereisen of Honeywell as the recipient of its Achievement Award, the highest award given by the organization. Feyereisen is a resident of Hudson, Wis.

YouGov, an international research data and analytics group, announced the appointment of David H. Montgomery as a senior data journalist in Minneapolis. Montgomery has reported for news outlets CityLab, Minnesota Public Radio and the Pioneer Press.

DiaMedica Therapeutics Inc., a Minnetonka-based biopharmaceutical company, announced the appointment of Ambarish Shah as chief technology officer. Shah previously was vice president and head of Global Vaccines Development at CSL Seqirus.

Entrust, a Minneapolis-based provider of money transfer and data security services for business, announced it has named Jordan Avnaim chief information security officer. Avnaim joins the firm after serving similar roles at The Capital Group Cos.SkyWater Technology, a Bloomington-based semiconductor foundry, announced John Sakamoto as president and chief operating officer. … Agile Frameworks, a Bloomington-based provider of software and services for Construction Materials Testing and wider geotechnical engineering for business, announced Alicia Schimke as chief technology officer.
