Hibbing’s main water reservoir at the bottom of the world’s deepest open-pit iron mine is filling faster than the city can empty it. At its current rate, water could flood the city’s pumps by April. The soap opera “One Life to Live” mentioned Duluth in a recent episode. An orchestra conductor and spy attempted to send a rival to Duluth to fill in for a guest artist. The rival contacted the Duluth Symphony and discovered the ruse.

The Hibbing Chamber of Commerce approved a resolution requesting the FCC reserve television channel 10 for Hibbing. Helmer Olson, executive secretary, told members that channel 10 had been allocated for the city some time ago, but that WEBC petitioned the FCC to move it from Hibbing to Duluth and substitute channel 13 for Buhl. A Superior labor leader warned that union pickets may form at the city’s new football field in protest of the use of municipal labor instead of building trades craftsmen. Construction at the $130,000 stadium has begun at the corner of Belknap Street and Catlin Avenue.]]>
