Scandia: Adult hockey tournament canceled due to warm weather, Vinterfest goes on

25 January 2024

The organizers of this year’s Minnesotan Cup adult hockey tournament had to pull the plug on the event.

The tournament coincides with Vinterfest, Scandia’s annual winter festival, which will still be held.

The rink where the hockey tournament was to be played this weekend, Wojtowicz Skating Park in downtown Scandia, is full of water and won’t refreeze overnight, said Corey Roberts, tournament organizer.

“Playing hockey in standing water is not fun,” he said. “We’re looking forward to next year.”

Fourteen teams and 200 players were scheduled to compete in the tournament.

Vinterfest events include a pancake breakfast, chili cook-off, outdoor movie, medallion hunt, kubb tournament, trivia treasure hunt, fireworks and more.
