Vikings officially cut safety Lewis Cine, ending his underwhelming run in Minnesota

27 August 2024

After an underwhelming run in Minnesota, safety Lewis Cine has been cut by the Vikings. The decision became official on Tuesday afternoon as the Vikings submitted their initial 53-man roster.

It has been trending in this direction for Cine as he was buried on the depth chart throughout training camp at TCO Performance Center. Though he put forth a solid effort in the preseason game between the Vikings and the Browns a couple of weeks ago, it wasn’t enough to save Cine from the chopping block.

The selection of Cine in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft will go down as the biggest bust in recent memory for the Vikings. He suffered a gruesome leg injury as a rookie and failed to make an impact after working his way back to full strength. He logged 10 defensive snaps in total during his tenure in Minnesota.

Maybe the most frustrating part about selecting Cine, in hindsight, is the fact that the Vikings passed up on a chance to draft safety Kyle Hamilton. They originally had the No. 12 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and decided to trade back to the No. 32 pick. A couple of picks later, the Ravens selected Hamilton, who has developed into an elite player at his position.

There were multiple reports that the Vikings tried to trade Cine before cutting him. They couldn’t find a willing trade partner, however, and now they will move on to their next chapter without him.
