No injuries when plane lands on rural Douglas County highway

BENNETT — U.S. Highway 53 became a makeshift runway Thursday afternoon when an airplane had mechanical difficulties.

No one was injured and there was no property damage when a plane made an emergency landing at about 12:09 p.m. in the town of Bennett, according to a news release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The highway was closed until the plane was pulled into the crossover area between the north and southbound lanes of the highway at Bennett Road. The crossover remained closed as of 4 p.m. Thursday.
