Kevin Custard, 22, of Virginia, is believed to have been killed Sunday along with 219 other U.S. servicemen when their barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, was bombed by terrorists. Custard’s family is one of several in the Northland that had been awaiting word on their loved ones. Money for the St. Louis County Women, Infants and Children nutrition program has been cut by 12% in the fiscal year beginning this month, meaning some people may be dropped from the program. Director Maureen Strange said the program serves more people than ever, with 4,317 clients.

Officials are investigating the death of Matthew Stenback, 47, of Toivola, who deputies say fell out of a truck driven by another man in Meadowlands. It is the 28th traffic death in the county this year. The Duluth mayor’s commission on job discrimination announced that it found 13 local firms with discriminatory questions on their job applications. All firms contacted by the commission agreed to remove the objectionable questions.]]>
