DULUTH — A 43-year-old man was arrested Friday morning after allegedly assaulting an 81-year-old man in the bathroom of a Chester Park grocery store.

The Duluth Police Department said it responded to Mount Royal Market, 1600 Woodland Ave., at approximately 8:50 a.m. Friday on a report of a “medical call as a result of an assault.”

Police found the victim in the store’s bathroom with “significant head injuries,” police said in a news release. The victim was taken to a local hospital and his condition was unknown as of Friday morning.

The suspect, a 43-year-old man, fled on foot and was found near Wallace Avenue and East Seventh Street and was arrested “without incident,” police said.

“Currently, it is unknown if the victim and the suspect were known to each other, or what prompted the assault,” police said in the release.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
