RED LAKE — One person has been injured and multiple houses are damaged after a home explosion Friday morning in Red Lake.

According to a release from Red Lake Public Safety Director Kendall Kingbird Sr., emergency personnel responded to a single home explosion at approximately 9:42 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, near Thunder Lake and BOT Drive in Red Lake.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found that one person was home at the time of the incident. The individual had been injured and was transported to the Red Lake Hospital for treatment. According to officials, the person is currently in stable condition.

“The residence was completely destroyed and multiple homes in the area were also damaged from the explosion,” the release said. “The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time. An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the explosion.”

Kingbird asks the public to avoid the area to allow Red Lake Police, Red Lake Conservation and fire services from both Red Lake and Ponemah to conduct their investigation.

State Fire Marshal and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives officials have also been notified and are assisting in the investigation.

For those affected by the explosion, assistance is being provided by the Red Cross, which is on site offering support to displaced residents and others impacted by the incident.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we work through this incident,” Kingbird said. “Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our citizens.”
