DULUTH — Hundreds of people gathered Monday outside City Hall in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day.

The celebration of the official state holiday included speeches from community leaders, drumming, singing, a round dance and displays of artwork. Attendees were encouraged to wear red in honor of missing and murdered Indigenous relatives, or orange to commemorate survivors of boarding schools.

In addition to the ceremony, the city planned to light Enger Tower and the Aerial Lift Bridge after dark to recognize the holiday.
