Byron Buxton, who participated in live batting practice on Monday in Houston, was hoping to make the Twins’ decisions a little harder, but in the end, he will be cheering on his teammates again from the bench as the Twins embark on their next playoff series.
There was only one change to the playoff roster, set Saturday morning ahead of Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Houston Astros at 3:45 p.m. at Minute Maid Park.
The Twins added Bailey Ober, who will start on Saturday, and subtracted rookie reliever Kody Funderburk, keeping 14 position players and 12 pitchers.
Because this series is longer — a best-of-five rather than a best-of-three — the Twins needed an additional starting pitcher. Ober, Pablo López, Sonny Gray and Joe Ryan are all expected to start games in the series, if necessary, with Kenta Maeda available out of the bullpen.
Here’s a look at the roster:
Pitchers: Bailey Ober, Joe Ryan, Pablo López, Sonny Gray, Kenta Maeda, Jhoan Duran, Caleb Thielbar, Brock Stewart, Emilio Pagán, Griffin Jax, Chris Paddack, Louie Varland
Position players: Carlos Correa, Royce Lewis, Jorge Polanco, Edouard Julien, Donovan Solano, Alex Kirilloff, Max Kepler, Matt Wallner, Michael A. Taylor, Willi Castro, Ryan Jeffers, Christian Vázquez, Kyle Farmer, Andrew Stevenson.
