Duluth hospital to begin issuing visitor badges

7 October 2023

DULUTH Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center will begin issuing badges to visitors on Tuesday.

Leaders at the downtown Duluth hospital, which opened a new, $900-million facility over the summer, said the process will help keep track of how many visitors the building receives and provide added security by ensuring people remain in the areas they are allowed to access.

Visitors to the main entrance, 402 E. Second St., will be asked to stop at the reception desk and present a photo identification to receive a badge that is good for one day. Visitors to the emergency department also will receive badges.

Patients will be allowed to vouch for visitors who do not bring a photo ID. The hospital said children won’t have their photos taken, but will be issued badges. Visitors are asked to return the badges when they leave the facility.
